Brother Knights, families and friends,
On behalf of the Missouri State Council and the Show-Me Knights Host Committee for the 135th Supreme Convention, it is my pleasure to invite you to join us in St. Louis, Missouri, as we celebrate the accomplishments of our Order and another successful Columbian year.
The city and county of St. Louis, along with St. Charles County and the neighboring state of Illinois, offer a diverse playground for those visiting St. Louis this August. Missouri is known as the Show-Me State, but during your visit we will be the ones showing you the hospitality and friendship of Missouri. This all starts with our preconvention tours, which will give you the opportunity to experience many different aspects of St. Louis and the surrounding areas. We suggest taking a trip to the Gateway Arch and the Basilica of St. Louis, King of France (more commonly known as the Old Cathedral to us Missourians). You might like a quieter tour and take a trip into Illinois to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. Other exciting tours include a visit to the St. Louis Zoo, the Art Museum or Science Center, both located in Forest Park, the home to the 1904 World’s Fair; or a trip to historic St. Charles for quaint shopping and a look at the first capital of Missouri. Maybe you would like a cruise on the Mississippi River or take time for a visit to the “new” Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. If you are a beer enthusiast, take part in a scheduled tour through the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. Sunday afternoon you will have the opportunity to watch the 11-time World Champion St. Louis Cardinals take on the Arizona Diamondbacks, with an appearance by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, who will throw out the first pitch.
In addition to our tours, there are many other exciting things to see in the area, including the St. Louis City Museum and the National Blues Museum, within walking distance of the Convention Center. You might also want to visit Union Station, which is a top tier, family-friendly destination. A visit to the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center at Cardinal Glennon Hospital is a must on any Knight’s visit. Finally, there are several wineries and casinos, as well as local restaurants, to satisfy your appetite.
If you like your stay in St. Louis, you might want to explore other areas of our great state. Head north and visit Hannibal to see the birthplace of Mark Twain. Head west to Kansas City and visit the City of Fountains. Go northwest to visit St. Joseph, where the Pony Express originated. Go southwest to my neck of the woods, Branson, to see the beauty of Table Rock Lake and take in a live music show. In the center, Jefferson City, you will find the state capital. If you want to relax you can visit the numerous wineries throughout the state, starting with Hermann, home to the oldest wineries in Missouri. You could also consider taking a trip southeast to Ste. Genevieve, the oldest city in the state.
We look forward to your visit with us as we host the 135th Supreme Convention in St. Louis, the Gateway to the West.
